Background Information

DirectLaw , Inc., is an affiliate of  Epoq US. Inc., dedicated to enabling law firms of all types create web-enabled legal services. Epoq US, Inc. was founded by Richard S. Granat in June, 2000 to offer digital legal solutions to consumers over the Internet, utilizing the Rapidocs® technology developed by its affiliated company, Epoq Group Limited which is based in Great Britain. During the summer of 2000, Epoq US launched its revolutionary My Lawyer web service (www.mylawyer.com), which enabled users to assemble complex legal documents or Adobe PDF forms using the custom built Rapidocs software, (http://www.rapidocs.com) Rapidocs ® "interviews" users and creates complex documents tailored to their circumstances.  Epoq US. Inc.,  today operates more than 15 specialized legal information web sites generating more than 10,000 smart legal documents and forms a month for consumers and small business.

Richard Granat is a Maryland attorney  and maintains his own virtual law practice in family law at http://www.mdfamilylawyer.com, in addition to leading Epoq's efforts in the U.S.

Mr. Granat was formerly President of the Institute for Paralegal Training, the nation's first paralegal training institution, where he was instrumental in developing the role of the paralegal in law firms the United States. He has also served as President of Automated Legal Systems, Inc., one of the first software companies developing legal applications for the personal computer.   Mr. Granat is also co-chair of the ELawyering Task Force of the Law Practice Management Section of the American Bar Association and he serves as liaison from the Law Practice Management Section to the ABA Standing Committee on the Delivery of Legal Services. He is also a member of the Maryland and District of Columbia Bars. Mr.  Granat is a fellow in the College of Law Practice Management.
